Ore shipments from Odessa port soar 69 percent to 2.2 million tons

Handling of export and transit ore cargo at the berths of Odessa Commercial Sea Port (OCSP) for nine recent months (as of September 28) jumped by 69 percent compared

with the same period of 2010, to  2.5 million tons, the company said.
Olimpex-Coupe Int., a stevedore operating the berths Number 3 and 4 at the port of Odessa, in less than nine months of the year, handled over 0.5 million tons of export ore cargo. The cargo was loaded to Capesize bulk carriers.
On September 25 the next, 8th Capsize Bermuda-flagged Chjulex docked at to berth #4 to take on board about 90,000 tons of iron ore concentrate.
State-owned Odessa Commercial Sea Port is one of the largest ports of the Black Sea-Azov Basin. The OCSP’s facilities allow handling annually over 14 million tons of dry bulk cargo and 14 million tons of liquid bulk. In 2010, cargo throughput of Odessa port shrank by 11.8% year-over-year to 24.7 million tons, container traffic totaled 351 600 TEUs.
