Qatargas-chartered Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) vessel, "SS Dukhan" receives world's first ever Green Award certificate of recognition, for a specific LNG vessel,
acknowledging the vessel's compliance with global environment regulations and safety standards.
The Green Award for SS Dukhan was presented, in recognition of this milestone, to the vessel operator MOL LNG Transport (Europe) Ltd in the presence of Mr. Abdurrahman Al-Mulla, Qatargas' Shipping Manager by Mr. Jan Fransen, Managing Director of Green Award, at a ceremony onboard the vessel on Friday 14 October, whilst she was alongside at the Ras Laffan Industrial City Port, Doha.
This is the first time in the Foundation's 18 year history that such a vessel has received this Award. The Green Award for LNG carriers comes from the Green Award scheme, established in 1994, in order to promote quality shipping amongst sea-going vessels. All over the world the Green Award certifies ships, ship managers and energy companies that prove their dedication to high quality, safety and environmental standards.
In March 2011 Qatargas, in conjunction with the Green Award Foundation, received recognition for its Qatari LNG Fleet and launched the LNG vessel category of Green Award, which has now led to the first Green Award being presented to a specific Qatargas Chartered vessel.
Commenting on this achievement, Khalidn Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer - Qatargas, said: "We are proud to receive the world's first ever LNG vessel Green Award and the recognition for one of our LNG carriers from the Green Award Scheme that endorses our safe and environmentally responsible shipping."
Abdurrahman Al-Mulla, Qatargas' Shipping Manager, present at Friday's ceremony added that: "This is a testament to the dedication of our shipping team and the pioneering innovation of our LNG Fleet."
Mr. Jan Fransen, Managing Director of Green Award said:
"The Green Award programme with all its partners is a perfect example of a joint industry corporate social responsibility. We are delighted here in the Green Award Foundation to have the support of Qatargas and the first LNG Carrier is now listed with the prestigious Green Award."
Also present in the ceremony onboard SS Dukhan were Ed Carr, Managing Director of the vessel operator, MOL, Larry Dickens MOL Qatar Marine Operations Manager, Peter Blackett, Ras Laffan Harbourmaster, and Capt. Feisal Saad RLIC Port Manager.
