In January-April 2008, Commercial Port of Vladivostok increased its throughput by 66%, year-on-year, to 2.09 million tonnes (as of April 30, 2008), the company informs. In the reported period, export totaled 1.218.9 million tonnes (up almost 2-fold, year-on-year), import - 518,900 tonnes (+ 24 %), coastal trade cargo – 355,600 tonnes (+ 34 %). The port attributes the growth
mainly to export increase due to growing demand for Russian metal in
South-East Asia. In the first quarter of 2008 the company tripled
transshipment of metal and hard component.
Commercial Port of Vladivostok is located on the North-West shore of an
ice-free Bay of Zolotoi Rog. It is 20-30 meters deep at the approaches
to the port. The port specializes in handling of dry and liquid bulk
cargo, timber and general cargo including containers. The port’s 16
berths are 4200 meters long. Two of the berths are cargo-and-passenger
ones. All the berths except for berth No 16 are multi-purpose berths.
Berth No 16 specializes in handling of large-capacity containers. The
port also has two refrigerator warehouses with a capacity of 5,000 m3
each. The port’s oil transshipment complex is capable of storing 15,000
tonnes of oil products. The depth at the berths is enough for
20,000-dwt tankers with the draft of up to 10 meters. The complex
specializes in bunkering of vessels as well as on export and domestic
transportation of oil products.
