On May 13, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) received one of the highest honors in the maritime industry when it received “The Classification Society Award” at the Seatrade Asia Awards 2008, held in Singapore. The Seatrade Asia Awards, organized by London based publisher Seatrade, are presented for excellence and innovation in the Asian maritime sector. The Seatrade
Asia Awards’ distinguished panel of judges awarded ClassNK “The
Classification Society Award” for its commitment to quality service and
contributions to the Asian maritime community, and recognized ClassNK
as the leading classification society in Asia.
Since its founding in 1899, ClassNK has established 103 exclusive
surveyor offices around the world, with more than 60 offices located in
Asia. The award acknowledges the high level of service ClassNK
provides to its clients not only in Japan, China, and Korea, but
throughout Asia, the center of the world’s shipbuilding industry. The
award is also a testament to the continued success of ClassNK, which
last August became the first class society in the world to have 150
million gross tons on its register. |
