The Ministry of Energy will import 150,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) this September due to high LPG consumption, especially from the transport sector. The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Energy, said the Energy Ministry needs to import an additional of 100,000 tonnes of LPG each month during the
second half
of 2008 because more people have turned to use this alternative fuel.
The ministry also plans to buy 160,000 tonnes of LPG in November
because it has to compensate the LPG price with PTT Public Company
Limited at about 20 baht per kilogram, and the ministry could pay over
two billion baht by this year’s end, Mr Norkhun said.
With this amount, he said the ministry has to raise the LPG price for
the transport and industrial segments, either in the end of August or
in the beginning of September.
