With a record order book of bulk carriers in 2007, Bureau Veritas is enjoying a strong position in the marine industry's competitive bulk carrier segment. Bureau Veritas received a huge boost to the numbers of bulk carriers, mostly built in China, ordered to Bureau Veritas class. In the period from January to July this year, more than 45% of all handymax ships (40,000/60,000 dwt) ordered worldwide were to Bureau Veritas class, a clear testimony to the Group's leadership. In July, Bureau Veritas had 271 newbuilding bulk carriers on its books, of which 230 were at Chinese yards. Chinese shipyards and designers are playing a key role in the future of bulk carriers and Bureau Veritas has a long established presence in working with these influential players.
