The Americans are so enthusiastic about the security measures in Rotterdam that 60 other ports have been told they will have to employ the same system if they want to handle goods coming from or going to the United States.Containers moving through the port of Rotterdam have been scanned for nuclear substances for some time. To do this, the technology company Siemens has installed dozens of detection gates that trucks have to pass under. The scanners have already discovered a number of suspicious containers. For instance, there was a consignment of radioactive wallpaper that was intercepted in time. Every day, some 25,000 containers pass through the scanners in Rotterdam.
