The Port of Seattle Commission will hold a public hearing on Jan. 8 to discuss the Washington state auditor's critical performance audit of the port's construction management. The audit released earlier this month found the port had wasted $97.2 million in taxpayer dollars in construction contracts from 2004 to 2007. Auditors found port officials violated state laws, did not always bid out projects properly and sometimes let vendors make decisions that should have been made by the port. A public hearing on the audit will be hold at 1 p.m. on Jan. 8 in the port's Pier 69 headquarters. The following day, the Legislature has planned a 1 p.m. hearing on the same audit in Senate Hearing Room 4 of the John A. Cherberg Building in Olympia.
