United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has announced its partnership with South Korea’s Hanjin Shipping to launch a new service to link the US East Coast, the Indian sub-continent, West Asia and the Mediterranean, according to shipping industry sources.
The first sailing of the proposed service, to be known as Middle
East-Indian Subcontinent-North America (MINA) service, is scheduled on
January 5 from the port of Khor Fakkan and the rotation will be: Khor
Fakkan- Jebel Ali- Port Qasim – Jawaharlal Nehru port – Port Said – Med
Hub – La Spezia – Fos – Barcelona – Valencia – Med Hub – New York –
Norfolk – Savannah – Valencia – Genoa – Port Said – Jeddah – Khor
Fakkan. A total of nine vessels of 4,000-TEUs each – six of which to be
provided by UASC and three by Hanjin – will be deployed on the service.
The MINA service is being launched by combining two of UASC’s existing
services, namely, Mediterranean – India Express (MIX) and South East
Asia – India – North America (SINA) “to provide customers with
uninterrupted coverage with better transit time”, the sources add.
With the introduction of MINA service, the SINA service, connecting the
US East Coast, South East Asia and the Indian sub-continent, will cease
to operate. SINA was run with eight vessels (3,500-4,000 TEUs), two
each provided by four partners of the service, namely, UASC, Hanjin, K
Line and Yang Ming Line.
