Midland Shipping Company Ltd. (Canada), part of Midland Group, is to expand the fleet of its dry cargo carriers for transportation of cargo in the basins of Mediterranean, Baltic and Black Seas as well as the Sea of Azov, Interfax reports according to Gudok.ru. Midland has a newbuilding contract for the construction of 10 ''Rusich Type'' vessels, 5,400dwt, with the Saigon Shipbuilding Industry Corporation in Vietnam. The first vessel is expected to be ready by the end of 2008, with the second vessel scheduled for keel-laying in August and for delivery in the first quarter of 2009.Dry cargo carrier ''Rusich'' was designed by Vympel design bureau in Nizhni Novgorod. Its length is 128 meters, breadth – 16.7 meters, cargo carrying capacity – over 5,000 tonnes. The vessel is capable of sailing around Europe Midland Shipping specializes in transportation of metal goods, scrap metal and grain. Its head office is in Toronto (Canada), representative offices in Odessa (Ukraine) and St. Petersburg (Russia). According to Midland Shipping, the company’s sea-going and sea-and-river-going vessels have displacement from 3,000 to 6,000 tonnes.
