Figures from the Hong Kong Marine Department show the port handled 3.08 million TEU in February, an increase of 9.6 per cent over the 1.5 million throughput in February last year, and representing a 44.2 per cent increase in a month to month comparison against the 2.06 million TEU moved in January.The Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) reported a 12 per cent increase in February to 2.18 million TEU against February 2007's throughput of 2.1 million TEU.From January to February, Singapore handled 4.63 TEU, a year-on-year gain of 12 per cent from 4.14 million TEU.Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) throughput only increased 2.5 per cent year on year to 1.8 million TEU in February because of snow storms, Logistics Week reported.SIPG handled 26 million tonnes in February, a year-on-year increase of 3.5 per cent, which is the smallest monthly growth of Shanghai port in recent years, the report said.SIPG altogether handled 4.211 million TEU in the first two months of this year, an increase of 9.2 per cent. The Yangshan deep-water port area saw a strong growth of 39.8 per cent in the two months and contributed 1.12 million TEU to the total, the report said.Total cargo volume of Shanghai port from January to February grew 5.2 per cent to 56.17 million tonnes, including 37.3 million tonnes which rose 7.6 per cent, the report added.
