The Cayman Registry once again was in attendance at the prestigious Annual Monaco Yacht Show in September held at the Port Hercules yacht basin. This year marked the 19th consecutive year for the event.
Cayman Registry representatives from George Town headquarters, the
European Regional Office in Southampton, U.K., the London office, and
the Mediterranean office in Monaco, all attended the MYS and manned the
handsomely-appointed booth promoting the Cayman Registry. The Registry,
as it is now known (formally the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry,
established in 1903), is a division of the Maritime Authority of the
Cayman Islands, now known simply as “Cayman Maritime”. It has had a
presence for a number of years now at the annual event, deemed the most
prestigious yachting event in the world.
“International luxury yachting industry professionals are not mistaken
in positioning the MYS as the world’s leading superyacht show,” says A.
Joel Walton, the organisation’s CEO, who led the Cayman Registry’s
delegation at MYS which attracts a global high-end professional and
private clientele: 500 exhibitors and nearly 30,000 participants.
“Participating in the show has become a must for industry leaders,”
believes Mr. Walton. The Cayman Registry attends in conjunction with
the Cayman Islands Civil Aviation Authority which is becoming
increasingly successful in the registration of aircraft.
Accompanying Mr Walton from George Town headquarters were: Maritime
Policy Advisor, Peter Southgate; Events Coordinator, Dorisley Jackson -
who annually organises the delegation’s participation, and intern and
the organisation’s scholarship recipient, Vassel G. Johnson.
Attending from the European Regional Office in Southampton were Lead
Surveyor (UK), Richie Blake, Senior Surveyor (UK), Peter Simpson, and
Client Service Officer Yvonne Webb, along with Assistant Registrar of
Shipping (UK), Tamara Bostock from the London office, and Consultant
Surveyor Eduard Henny, who is in charge of operations in the
Mediterranean office in Monaco.
Members of the Civil Aviation Authority were also in attendance
including Director-General Richard Smith, Director of Commercial
Affairs Regulations and Administration Nikki McCoy, and Head
Airworthiness UK/Europe R. Barry Goodliffe,.
Yacht owners/managers and various maritime industry professionals were
invited to the Cayman Registry’s popular “Mojitos in Monaco” party,
sponsored by the law firm of Appleby at the Zest Monaco restaurant in
Monte Carlo, Bruce Putterill and Sherice Arman represented the firm.
The Cayman Registry is the global leader in “flagging” mega yachts
(private vessels in excess of 120 feet), and many of the world’s
biggest and best yachts were on display at the MYS, a significant
portion of them seen to be flying the Cayman maritime flag, or “Red
Ensign”.
