The Federal Government has given the green light to a $1.8 billion iron ore project in Western Australia's Mid-West.
The Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett has signed off on Gindalbie Metals' Karara Iron Ore Project east of Geraldton.
It was given state environmental approvals in September.
Gindalbie's Managing Director Garret Dixon says the company is expected
to announce three major construction contracts worth $400-million in
the coming months.
He says hundreds of workers will be needed on site by January and up to 1000 by mid-2010.
Gindalbie hopes to start exporting magnetite ore to China in 2011.
