Cargotec has received an order for 12 Kalmar TR618i terminal tractors and one Kalmar DCF 90-45E7 empty container handler from the newly-built Container Terminal at the Seaport of St Petersburg.
The order was booked in the fourth quarter 2009 order intake. Ten
machines have already been delivered with the remaining units scheduled
for delivery in the first quarter of this year.
The TR618i model – a member of Cargotec’s latest generation Kalmar icon
series terminal tractor – is valued for its efficient operation, easily
accessible maintenance points and innovative design. With a robust
frame and a strong Dana RTE15822 transmission, the TR618i is capable of
smooth gear changes with better traction ensuring that the durable
units from Cargotec delivered to the new facility can withstand
Russia’s harshest winter conditions.
Furthermore, Cargotec’s Kalmar empty container handlers offer fast,
efficient stacking with ultimate precision. The unit on order has a
lifting capacity of 9 tonnes and a total container stacking height of
7+1, all with extraordinary stability and total cost-efficiency.
Alexander Scherbinin, Director of the Container Terminal, comments on the order:
“Having reliable equipment is extremely important for our operations as
we will be serving customers in Russia’s busiest port and often in
freezing temperatures. This dependability is complemented by Cargotec’s

The new greenfield container terminal is set to open in spring of 2010.
St Petersburg is considered Europe’s gateway to Russia as it is the
country’s largest industrial and transport centre.
About the customer
New Container Terminal – situated at the fourth cargo area of the Sea
Port of St Petersburg – is part of International Transport Holding UCLH
BV, incorporating the controlling interests of five other stevedoring
companies in Northwest Russia and two ports in the country’s southern
region. The development strategy of International Transport Holding
aims to further the consolidation and development of transport assets,
including those related to transportation by sea, river, railway as
well as the stevedoring business.
The first phase of the terminal construction commenced in 2008 with the
plan to accommodate an annual handling capacity of 350,000 TEU.
Implementation of this project required an investment of $120 million.
