The Italian government has approved draft legislation that will reform the structure of Italian ports. According to Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Altero Matteoli, the reform will result in more modern and efficient ports.
The new law will redefine the role of port authorities and the way they
manage the ports. Attention will also be paid to the relationship
between the port and its hinterland, as well as to accesses to the port.
There will also be changes to simplify and streamline procedures for
approving changes to ports, and to issuing licences to private
operators, while also making dredging easier.
