China's Guangxi Province planned to reduce its number of coal mines to 100 from 196 by the end of 2010, as per local news agencies. At present, coal demand at the region was 50 million tonnes each year, but the output was only 6-8 million tonnes.
Therefore, the province had to bring in coal from outside, including 25
million tonnes from Guizhou, 10 million tonnes from northern regions and
7 million tonnes overseas. Guangxi expects to make full use of its port
advantage for importing coal overseas in South in the future.
